Thomas Egan - BANG ARTIST
BANG – Blackstone Art Next Generation
Thomas Egan (Tommy) [b. 1999, Isleworth, UK) is a painter based at Assembly House studios in Leeds. He studied Fine Art at Leeds Arts University from which he graduated in 2021 and still lives in the city, teaching after-school art to children. Tommy has had two solo shows in Leeds and has exhibited as a part of the collective “We Didn’t Fancy” numerous times around the city. Tommy’s work has now seen many corners of the globe that he never expected, having worked with Linda and BANG at the Affordable Art Fairs since 2021.
Tommy is a painter of colour and of form. Of people, of nature – of a dream world that he cannot see when he opens his eyes, but rather one that inhabits his memory. Tommy paints because it’s the only way he can see that world when he’s awake, and he invites you to join him there.
“My practice is one of experimentation within the materiality of paint, with a focus on painting as a sensory experience for both the creator and the perceiver. My paintings are evidence to a series of processes that I have developed over the last two years and find them bridging the gap between the action and field paintings of abstract expressionism through a contemporary and European sensibility. Working with loud and vibrant colour has always been an important part of my practice as one of the intentions of my work is to entrap the viewer in a world of diverse marks and colours and invite them to decipher the overgrown and overlaid compositions.”
