Jacquie Turner - NEW WORK AUTUMN 2023
Jacquie Turner
1978-79 Hertfordshire College of Art and Design, St Albans
1979-81 Winchester School of Art (B.A. Fine Art)
1981-85 Marlborough Fine Art, London
1985-87 Arts Council of Great Britain
1987 Tate Gallery, Liverpool (London Office)
1988 to date Self Employed Artist
Jacquie studied at Winchester School of Art while Gillian Ayres CBE RA was head of painting, after which she worked at Marlborough Fine Art in London for five years. The gallery represented Henry Moore, John Piper, Francis Bacon, Graham Sutherland, R.B.Kitaj, Frank Auerbach and many other world class artists. In order to gain more time in the studio to prepare for exhibitions Jacquie left Marlborough to work part time at The Arts Council and The Tate Gallery before becoming a full-time artist.
“ Inspiration comes mainly from my local environment and travels, using photography and sketches to build up ideas. Friends and regular clients occasionally send me photos and cuttings which often trigger visual suggestions which might contribute to a new phase of work. I have always enjoyed being out on the water, rowing on the Thames, sailing, and paddling around the Cornish creeks and rivers. All these experiences continue to be hugely influential on my work.”
“My subjects revolve around Life, Place and Water, but I tend to move through these in phases, using mixed media, acrylic or ink on paper and canvas, quite often returning to a subject phase if something new triggers fresh ideas. I keep all my photos, magazine cuttings and sketches (not in an organised way) and they continue to influence my work as I rediscover them.”
Several London galleries have represented Jacquie over the years, however she has been with the Linda Blackstone Gallery since 1987, where her work has been regularly exhibited in New York, Singapore, and Hong Kong in addition to the main London and UK Art Fairs. Jacquie now also occasionally exhibits at local venues in Buckinghamshire and Cornwall.
