Ian Munro - BANG ARTIST
Ian Munro - BANG ARTIST
“Most of the time, what I make is a reflection or an exploration of either my surroundings or the inner confusion of my mind. Often following narratives of nature, climate change or just being lost. I get bored of stale things easily, so I thoroughly enjoy experimenting in anything new to me.
I have found that in my practice the medium is mostly completely dictated by the idea. Whatever is the most effective way to convey what I want, I’ll delve into that. Visual communication has been the cornerstone of my practice, so over time it has grown to be more multidisciplinary and mixed media to encompass photography, bookmaking, collage, videography, sculpture and basically anything with a hands-on process, like woodworking or print.
I’m a Leeds based artist, working as a graphic designer by day. I grew up in the mountains of Switzerland where I fumbled to begin my creative journey. Only being truly re-inspired in art when going to Cow House Studios in Ireland. From there, I studied at les Ateliers d’Arts et Design in Geneva, where I came to the realization the creative scene in Switzerland was not ‘up my street’. As such, I moved to Kingston-upon-Thames to complete an Art & Design foundation with
my eyes set on subsequently studying Visual Communication at Leeds Arts University. I now continue my practice at Assembly House Studio, in Leeds.
Some of my work has featured in multiple exhibitions in venues across town (including Old Red Bus Station, the Brunswick and Beaver Works) as well as end-of-year shows both in Switzerland and Kingston.”
Education:
Leeds Arts University – BA (hons) Visual Communication
Kingston College – Art & Design Foundation
Ateliers d’Arts et de Design
Cow House Studios
