The Artists

MAY 2012

2011 was a very busy year for the gallery and despite the recession we have found that our patrons out there still want to have innovative and original works of art in their homes which give them lasting pleasure. The gallery exhibited at 8 exhibitions and Art Festivals in the UK and abroad during the year, and also held a highly successful solo exhibition for Rosa Sepple RI SWA in central London.

2012 promises to be another exciting year for the Gallery.

We started the year by exhibiting the work of Gary Benfield, Colin Kent, Penelope Lee,Susan Macarthur,Ken Paine, J Richard Plincke,Harry Price, Rosa Sepple, Eva Tomkins, John Tookey and Jacquie Turner on Stand D9 at the WATERCOLOUR & WORKS ON PAPER FAIR AT THE SCIENCE MUSEUM, KENSINGTON from 1 - 5 FEBRUARY 2012. Despite the Arctic conditions our patrons braved the weather and enjoyed the beautiful display of art from 18th century to today.

We then prepared for the Spring edition of the AFFORDABLE ART FAIR, BATTERSEA PARK from14-18 MARCH 2012. Exhibiting at the Fair this Spring were Anne-Marie Butlin,Paul Kavanagh,Colin Kent,Ian Mastin,Susan Macarthur,Andy Waite,Jacquie Turner,J Richard Plincke and glass work by Louise and Colin Hawkins. We introduced Glenis Devereux,Kevin Sweeney,Catherine Muir and Debbie Richards - all new to the Spring Fair. The warm Spring weather attracted a very large audience and the Gallery sold to many new clients who we are sure will gain much pleasure from their purchases for many years to come. Over 21,000 adults attended the Fair plus children and over £4.3 million was made in sales overall. Amazing sales when you think that 25% of the work was under £4,000 and 75% was under £3,000.

From 18-22 April we were in New York exhibiting our artists work at AAF NYC which was held again at 7W 34th Street opposite the Empire State Building. Our stand proved really popular and all exhibiting artists sold well. We look forward to returning to the exciting city of New York next Spring.

Bernard Saint-Maxent will be holding his first solo exhibition in central London in October. He has already had two highly successful solo shows in central Paris and now it is time for London to enjoy his exciting works! Keep an eye on our website for more news on this very special show.

Keep an eye on our website as new work is arriving all the time for your viewing pleasure.

December News

I am writing this Blog in the warm with below zero temperatures outside

At the beginning of May Rosie and I flew to New York to exhibit our artists’ work at The Affordable Art Fair New York. It was a very exciting week. The Fair was held at 7W on 34th and 5th right opposite the front door of the Empire State Building. We soon became attuned to the “buzz” of this amazing city and once the crates had been unpacked and our stand (booth) had been hung we awaited the opening evening with great excitement! The Fair was as “buzzy” as the city it was in, with some amazing exhibits. We received so many compliments for the high standard and innovative works of our artists and for the actual look of the stand. Our artists did really well for our first visit back since 2002 and we came away feeling that our week away from loved ones was justified and now look forward to returning to AAF NYC next May 2011!!

ART LONDON 7-11 October was a beautiful exhition and I urge all those who have never visited before to come next year to experience a truly elegant show with works of high quality. Those who visited this year enjoyed Paul Vanstone’s huge marble sculpture in the gardens approaching the marquee and his stunning marble torsos on Stand 74. Bernard Sainte-Maxent, Rosa Sepple, Colin Kent, Andy Waite, Mat Barber Kennedy, Steven Outram, Janet Ledger, Paul Kavanagh & Jill Berelowitz exhibited stunning works which were well received and sales were excellent.

THE AFFORDABLE ART FAIR 21-24 OCTOBER was the best AAF to date. Over 23,000 flocked through the doors over the four days of the Fair and our artists sold 45 works of art in that time!!! A record for us! Our new artists - Sebastien Levigne and Cath Read proved highly popular. Sebastien sold 6 out of the 9 works he sent over from France and Cath sold 2 of 4 paintings that she sent to introduce her to our many clients. We welcome them both to the Gallery. We were delighted with the great reception all our artists received. We look forward to showing you innovative new works by other artists in our team next Spring at the Affordable Art Fair 10-13 March 2011.

On 11 September we celebrated 25 years of the Linda Blackstone Gallery. To mark this very special occasion we held a major solo exhibition of new works by our highly talented and extremely popular still life artist Ian Mastin. The Private View and 25th Anniversary Party took place at the beautiful Dyrham Park Country Club, Barnet, Herts, on Saturday 13 November. The stunning clubhouse was a perfect backdrop for Ian’s paintings. The much admired exhibition continued in the Clubhouse up to Saturday 20 September when it transferred back to my studio in Rickmansworth until 25 November. Unfortunately the arctic weather conditions did not help to bring too many of Ian’s fans out of their warm homes but those who visited really enjoyed this high quality work.

Wrap up warm and I look forward to your visits to the studio by appointment or to our stands at The Watercolours & Works on Paper Fair & AAF Spring Fair next February & March 2011.

If you would like free entry tickets for Watercolours & Works on Paper Fair at the Science Museum, London from 3-6 February please email me and I will send them on to you after the Christmas holidays.

Seasons Greetings.

Thank you all for your support in 2010 and I wish you a happy and healthy 2011.

SPRINGTIME IN NEW YORK

As our 25th Anniversary Year progresses we must thank all those who visited Stand J12 at the Spring Affordable Art Fair in Battersea Park from 11-14 March. Over 23,000 visitors enjoyed diverse work from 120 galleries over the four days of the show. The early Spring sunshine brought the art lovers out of their winter hibernation and the extremely innovative and colourful work on exhibition was well received. We had a record breaking exhibition and our artists were all delighted that their paintings had flown off the walls, and sculpture off the floor to be taken home by our excited and happy clientele.

On 29 March the shippers arrived to collect all our art work to be shipped to the United States in readiness for the Spring edition of the Affordable Art Fair NYC which this year will be held in an exhibition space called 7W on 34th Street and 5th Avenue in New York from 6-9 May with the Private View on Wednesday 5 May. We will be on Booth B-202 with new work by Gary Benfield, Jill Berelowitz, Davy Brown, Paul Kavanagh, Mat Barber-Kennedy RI, Colin Kent RI, Ian Mastin, Bernard Sainte-Maxent, Rosa Sepple RI and Ken Paine PS SPF. If you are in New York that weekend and would like free entry tickets to this exciting Art Fair please let me know and they will be left at the door for you.
