Susan Brown
Susan Brown is a well established painter from the North of England. Her watercolour style is unique and innovative. She handles her subjects in a spontaneous manner, creating bold lively images but retaining absolute confidence and control over her medium.
The artist paints many different subjects in watercolour and mixed media: theatrical and musical scenes, still life, landscape and most particularly architectural subjects.
After studying design in Leeds, Susan started her career as an interior designer. It was then that she started to take an interest in architecture and architectural illustration.
Susan Brown has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions including the Royal Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy, The Royal Watercolour Society and the New English Arts Club. In 1994 she was Artist in Residence at the York Early Music Festival.

“I see my work falling into two areas, the real and the unseen. The first area of work ‘The Real World’ is a figurative recording of life, predominantly architectural studies of existing surroundings. I often explore the mathematics, rhythm and movement within structures, and the relationship between man and his built environment. This induces a reminiscent response.
The second ‘The Unseen’ falls into abstraction. Influenced and inspired by landscapes and events, the work focuses on texture and pattern, on strata and rhythm. This hopefully, induces an emotional response from the viewer.”
