Susan Macarthur

Susan Macarthur is a Fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen. She studied Fine Art at California State Long Beach and Laguna Beach School of Art and whilst drawing, painting and sculpting discovered fabric and stitch. On returning to England she has gone on to experiment with different techniques and materials to portray the human form. \'I come from a background of life drawing/painting and have always been drawn to the drama of the human form. My work is a combination of painting together with fabric and thread although I feel my work is more painterly than textile. I use a combination of paper, various fabrics, acrylic paint, fabric dyes and metallic thread and like the unpredictable occurrences that can arise with these materials. Layers of pattern play a large role as I feel it helps to hold the work together and hopefully provide depth and texture\'.
