Harry Price studied at Hereford College of Art and West Of England College of art in the 1950\'s, later gaining an MA at Middlesex Polytechnic. He devoted his life to teaching. After 20 years he retired from the Faculty of Art at Coventry University. The artist was then able to concentrate on his lifelong passion for painting exquisite botanical studies. Many hours were absorbed in exploring every detail of his subject which he portrayed in water colour with great skill and sensitivity. Although still as passionate about his botanical work, Harry\'s interest wandered into the fascination for his urban surroundings and in particular their reflections. This new interest is opening many new doors and is proving to be a subject that draws in his audience from all age groups.
As an art student in the 1950\'s Price faced the choice of going in either of two directions - one of academic training allied with craftmanship, and the other promoting abstract expressionism. After practising both, the tension between them still finds echoes in his painting. When he was a student, watercolour as a medium was hardly mentioned, yet Harry became captivated by the delight of its translucancy and fluidity.
Price was elected a member of the Society of Botanical Artists in 2001 and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 2003. He joined the Linda Blackstone Gallery in 1999.
Harry Price\'s awards include the Patchings Open Award and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours RI Award in 2005. In 2006 he won the prestigious RI Winsor & Newton Award for the most outstanding group of paintings. In 2009 Harry Price won the Debra Manifold Memorial Prize at the RI annual exhibition.
